Artificial Intelligence|Food Storage
Lineage Logistics is the worlds largest warehousing and logistics management company as well as the world’s first artificial intelligent led food storage facility.

Brief:
Dashboard purposed to give live insight into each blast cell’s contents, temperature, and time left as well as any errors that may need attention.

User Personas:

  • Operations managers

  • Warehouse generalists

User’s Pain Points: The current process for monitoring blast cells is outdated (whiteboards in each facility), resulting in delays of loading and unloading cells due to human error.

Research Plan:

  1. User interviews

  2. Usability testing

  3. 2nd round usability testing

  4. Synthesis & Delivery

Responsibilities:

  • Traveled to facility sites to understand the current state of process, and conduct extensive product research to gather insights and inform design decisions

  • Developed comprehensive research plan and discussion guide based on business objectives

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews to establish expectations and align project goals

  • Collaborated with data scientists to develop design goals in alignment with artificial intelligence software algorithm constraints

  • Conducted usability studies for first round of design concept with the goal of gathering qualitative research on user’s pain-points, highlights and site unique requests

  • Presented results to operations directors with the goal of implementing dashboard as an alternative to current process

Research Questions:

Warm up:

Inbound prep:
1.Describe your role and responsibilities.

2. Describe the facility type you support

3. How long have you been with this site?

Deep Dive:

  1. Walk me through the blast timeline.
    - How and when do they find out what blast orders are coming in?
-What kind of products do they blast ?
    - Do they use spacers?
How long does it usually take to get the products into the cells, how long do they blast for?

  2. What are the most important things for them to track for blast?

  3. Do you have a SWI specifically for blast and if so, is it being followed?

  4.  What are the pain points you're facing with the SWI* process?

  5. What are the pain points you’re facing with your current process?

  6.  What is currently being done to remedy/improve them?

  7. How are they currently assigning blast orders tasks (what are the roles and requirements to fill them) ?

  8. What are the overlapping needs/similarities that you find useful in dock dash that would be beneficial in Blast Dash?

  9. What preparation steps do you take before a blast order?

  10. What steps are often forgotten? What do supervisors need to be reminded of?

Output:

  • Data synthesis from all studies

  • In depth documentation

Outcome:

  • Gathered site specific pain points & requests

  • Successfully replaced outdated method of dry-erase whiteboard recording of blast cell state with site dashboard and mobile application

  • Improved operations production by 90%
